Pale Coral is the common of the last land you farm at scale, and its role is unglamorous and absolutely central: it is the wall's wage. Every common digging find in the Archipelago is Coral, it sells for 60 Khron, and those Khron are what end up deposited into the Path's Offering. In a continent where almost everything else is supreme, Coral staying sublime is no oversight — it is a measured decision.
By digging in the Mist Archipelago, as the only common of the Claws pool: everything that doesn't roll a Pearl is Coral, at 20-30 units per find with the Sublime pair and 40-60 with the Supreme.
The sea also gives it away: the lucky shipwreck event ("Shipwreck!") hands over four extra units of a common — while digging, that's Coral. And it collects too: among the Archipelago's bad events is, literally, razor coral slicing you in the shallows. The same thing that pays you is the thing that wounds you — a very Veil way of telling you what this zone is.
It was born in the biome-identity rework [sixfled 2026-07-30]: before it, the Archipelago owned just one of its four materials.
Two uses, both pointing at the same exit. The direct one: selling it to the Wanderer at 60 Khron to fill the Veil Path's Offering, which demands about 769,000 Khron deposited in installments — the measured equivalent of 72 outings in the zone. Coral is the bulk of that income: it is what always drops, outing after outing, while your Veil Pearl stay reserved for the Portal.
The indirect one: the Veil Claws, the digging Relic the final Portal requires you to have forged, cost 300 Coral alongside 220 Pearls and 110 Dune Glass.
In other words: Coral gets spent twice — once sold, once handed over — which is why on the wall there is never any to spare.
It is sublime on purpose. The Archipelago out-pays the desert because its common tracking echo was bumped to supreme in a separate tuning pass; Coral, by contrast, inherited the sublime rarity of the material it relieved, and the code comment says it plainly: "it is what keeps C4's income intact." The wall's Offering is denominated in outings of this zone: if Coral were worth more, the wall would shrink all by itself.
The wall moves: the barrier is no longer hand-written into the Archipelago, it is derived from how many continents exist. The day a sixth land arrives, the wall relocates on its own and this zone flattens by construction, and Coral goes from funding the Offering to being just another common.
Stealable on death, like every sellable: one unit of a material drawn at random among the types you carry. Cheap as it is, better it lands here than on a Pearl.
