The first material that makes you stare the word "rare" in the face. It is the Vale's rare dig find: refined, 20 Khron apiece —four times what a common fetches— with a luck roll standing in the way, so it does not drop on every outing. The game places it this early on purpose: before letting you cross the first Portal, it wants you to learn that rares are hunted, that they never pile up on their own.
Digging in Dawn Vale, as the RARE find — and it is the only rare in that pool, so every slot that comes up rare is this bone. The odds are set by your tool and rolled per slot, not per outing: 31% with the Mundane, 40% Refined, 58% Sublime, 62% Supreme. The Lure adds another +30 points and also grants that outing an extra find slot.
And only there: until the biome-identity change ([sixfled 2026-07-30]) it also dropped as a common in the Umbral Forest, but the Petrified Sap took over C2 and this bone became a Vale exclusive. If the Atlas flags it as missing, the hub's ◀ arrow is the road back.
It governs the first crossing and the first big upgrades. The Portal to Umbral Forest asks for 41 units — the portal's rare requirement, the one that truly sets its pace — next to 124 Carved Stone, 52 Breeze Echo and 40 Esencia, with the Mundane Compass and Claws in hand.
The Refined Claws ask for 36 and the Sublime Compass for 109 — a dig material also paying into the compass is deliberate: both branches advance in step, or the portal, which demands both tools at the same tier, goes lopsided. It sells for 20 Khron with no daily cap, because the market ceiling only bites from sublime upwards; but selling it before the Portal is paying for it twice.
It used to live in two lands, and that confused everyone. The Atlas deliberately repeats materials that drop across several continents ([Astero 2026-07-29]) so the player can see where to look for each thing, and this one showed in two rows; one day later the biome-identity change left it alone in the Vale — the Atlas's old picture is history, not a map.
It can be robbed: die with no hearts and no absorber and, on top of 20% of your Khron, the theft may take it, and replacing a rare costs outings, not pocket change.
And the early-game bill: 41 for the Portal + 36 for the Claws + 109 for the Compass = 186 units between C1 and C2. At 31-40% per find slot and three or four slots per outing, this bone is what decides how many evenings you spend in the Vale.
