The Veil Splinter is the "common" dig find of the game's final land — and the quotes matter: it is a supreme material, it sells for 150 Khron apiece, and with top gear a single find brings 40 to 60 at once. It is the endgame's daily bread: while you chase the truly rare stuff, this shard is what keeps the purse filling. And like every relic, it comes out of the Digging Claws, never the compass.
It only drops when digging in the Heart of the Veil, and that exclusivity has a date and a reason: until the "biome identity" rework of 07-30, the fifth continent's common dig find was the Veil Pearl, shared with the fourth. The Splinter was born to relieve it — the Pearl now belongs to the Mist Archipelago alone — inheriting its exact rarity and type so the income curve would not move.
There is a minor second source: Almanac relic slots sealed in the fifth land pay out in Splinters, their value deducted from the slot's budget. A trickle next to digging, but it arrives just by claiming your Ration.
Its job is pure income: no portal or recipe asks for it. The Wanderer pays 150 Khron apiece, and volume is set by your tool: with supreme Claws each find is 40-60 units, and one outing brings 4 finds (5 if you spend a Lure or a Spyglass). The surprise is in the odds: in the final land with supreme gear, 62% of finds roll the rare, so the Splinter — the "common" — actually shows up less often than the Kairun Heart.
Digging it up for the first time marks it in your collection: it counts toward completing the fifth land and toward the Veil Atlas, which pays a one-time +150 XP when fully closed. And beware: being sellable also makes it stealable on death and tradeable with other players — all three travel together.
Its icon once moonlighted as a doorman. On 08-20 the Veil Workshop needed an emblem of its own: it was drawn with the Essence drop, same as its Vein branch, so system and branch looked identical. The Splinter's art had been sitting in the folder "unused by anyone (0 references)" and it fit — a shard of the Veil — so it served as the Workshop's door until the final art arrived [sixfled 08-20].
The loot curve is not touched lightly. Raising tier-3 tool volume was tested and reverted: it inflated income by 13.5% and shortened the game from 22.0 to 18.9 hours. The fix was raising the rare chance and leaving quantities alone — "tier 3 doesn't give MORE loot, it gives BETTER loot" — and tier 4 stayed untouched because it only applies after the goal [sixfled 08-01].
And know the stall's ceiling: as a supreme, the Wanderer pays full price up to 12,000 units a day; anything past that pays 60%.
