What it is
When a tool runs out of uses it no longer vanishes: it comes off your kit and goes into a separate drawer as BROKEN, and the bench hands it back whole in exchange for materials.
It exists because breaking a Supreme — nearly 95 outings' worth of crafting — and having to rebuild it from scratch was the most expensive punishment in the game for something that happens just by playing. It's paid with a quarter of what FORGING that same piece asks for, without a single and without , and it comes out cheaper than buying a new one at any of the four tiers and in any of the five lands.
When it opens
There is no unlock, no zone requirement and no level: the "Repair" button appears inside Craft the moment you have at least one broken piece, with the count beside it, and disappears when you have none. You get there through Gadget → Craft, and the first time the "How it works" primer opens on its own before the bench; after that it stays as a button in case you want to reread it.
Getting here means breaking something, and you see it coming: every successful outing spends one use of the piece you have equipped on that branch — a Mundane lasts 60 outings, a Refined 130, a Sublime 260 and a Supreme 520 — and when exactly 5 are left the game warns you once. Once only, at that crossing.
What it is for
Its job is to make breaking a tool slow you down without ruining you. Losing a tier costs SPEED, not strength against a boss: each tier hands 5 seconds back to the wait on both actions, and at the lowest tier you drop to 3 finds per outing and a 31 % chance of rare loot.
The bench is the cheap way out of that, and it's calibrated to win every time: repairing a Refined Tracking Compass costs 41 units of material against the 14,664 a new one is worth.
And it meshes with the Veil Workshop through a door almost nobody notices: the piece comes back at full durability according to the Craft level you hold AT THAT MOMENT, so raising that axis before paying the bill hands you back a Supreme with 676 uses instead of 520. Raising it afterwards refills nothing you're already carrying.
- It wears down with workevery outing costs uses
- One warning at 5 usesand only one
- It breaksand is kept, broken
- You pay 1/4 of its recipeat the bank, inside Craft
- Back in one piecewith all its uses
Breaking a tool no longer deletes it. Repairing costs a quarter of what making it cost, so it is almost always better than crafting a new one.
How it works
- 01

What you can and cannot do
What you can do
What you CAN'T do

How it looks in the game

What you do not see
Until 2026-08-16 repairs were charged in , and it was a deal you could never accept. Measured against buying new across all 14 possible cases, repairing won in only 3 — and in Heart of the Veil it lost by a factor of 193 — so the bench existed so that you'd hit scrap and buy another one.
The cause wasn't the price, it was the CURRENCY: Essence is produced flat while Khron income per outing runs from 148 on the first continent to 23,189 on the fifth, and no Essence price wins in the last one. So the currency was changed, not the figure.
Two things that surprise people. The drawer keeps 6 broken pieces per branch and, once full, discards the LOWEST TIER, not the oldest — by age you'd throw out the Supreme to keep a Mundane. And repairing credits you NO tier progress: recovering your Supreme opens nothing new in the workshop.
